For some children who are visually impaired, the decision around learning media is not as simple as choosing braille or print. These children may benefit from instruction in both braille and print (dual media). Teaching children who are dual media learners presents challenges, but offers incredible rewards as they develop the literacy tools needed for success.

This presentation provides an overview of the characteristics of dual media learners, considerations in programming, as well as strategies for instruction and assessment.

PRESENTER SUMMARY:
Anne Spitz is a frequent presenter and contributor to Perkins Professional Development programs, including Training Center workshops, online resources, and webinar events. Among her areas of professional interest are Effective Collaboration Strategies for Working with Schools and Families, braille instruction, and Early Literacy and Assistive Technology. This year, Anne Spitz joined the Boston Public Schools as a TVI.
