Google Classroom Using NVDA/JAWS Part 1

Step-by-step video tutorial series for educators, students and families!

Author: April Bahl (SixDotMath) is a retired person who informally volunteers as an assistant to Tim Fahlberg, a math and computer science teacher at the Wisconsin School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WSBVI).

With so many schools going virtual this fall, I went looking for online resources to assist visually impaired students with understanding Google Classroom. I found videos for Jaws users but couldn’t find anything for NVDA users, so I decided to see what I could do. Initially I was going to just use NVDA in the videos, but after working with both screen readers, I thought that they had enough commonalities so that with a few adjustments the videos could reference both. The series includes an overview and covers most features of Google Classroom as of September 2020. A couple of notes:  Some installations of Google Classroom may have different features. Also, I am a novice user of Jaws and NVDA- experienced users may find more efficient ways to navigate the pages and accomplish tasks.

This video tutorial series provides step-by-step instruction on how to navigate and use Google Classroom with NVDA or JAWS.
