Beyond the Classroom: Topics in the Expanded Core Curriculum

There are 4 webinars included in this training module that address areas of the Expanded Core that often take place outside of a formal classroom setting.

Participants will earn 5 Professional Development Points, ACVREP, CTLE, or Continuing Education credits by viewing by viewing 4 designated webinars and taking an online quiz.

All assignments are required in order to receive education credits. ACVREP has approved this course for Certified Assistive Technology Instructional Specialists for People with Visual Impairments (CATIS) . You may also choose to register without credits.

Learning Goals and Objectives

Participants will:

  • Utilize strategies to help build the educational value of everyday and special activities.
  • Recognize the purpose of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC).
  • Infuse each component of the ECC into physical education.
  • Obtain a variety of intervention strategies for directly teaching topics such as, how to shower, appropriate masturbation, care for menstruation, and safety behaviors.
  • Understand the differences between incidental and explicit learning in the context of the Expanded Core Curriculum.

  • Upon successful completion of the test, you will earn 5 Professional Development Points, ACVREP, CTLE, or Continuing Education credits (your choice) and be eligible to receive a certificate demonstrating that you earned the credits. In addition, Perkins will send you a letter confirming that the credits have been awarded.
  • Instructions on how to enroll in the tutorial and take the online test will be emailed to you after you have successfully registered. Perkins eLearning profiles are unique to the learning platform, and separate from any other username/password you have with Perkins. If you already have a user profile for the learning platform, you will use that existing profile to access the tutorial.
  • All submitted material is reviewed by a member of the Perkins eLearning staff and is evaluated as having met the assignment requirements. Assignments are not individually evaluated or graded. Submitted assignments are not returned.
  • Assignments and assessments are evaluated on a Pass/Fail scale, and all requirements must be met to receive credits. There is no time limit to completing a Perkins Self-Paced Course. The lesson plan structure is suggested as the best approach to the material.
