Planning Transition for Students with Visual Impairments and Multiple Disabilities

This course helps members of the educational team become more effective transition team members. Plan and administer individualized, age-appropriate, and culturally responsive assessments to develop appropriate activities.

The transition from special education to post-school life presents significant challenges to students, their families and their educational teams. The challenges multiply when students have visual impairment and multiple disabilities. This course helps members of the educational team become more effective transition team members.

Discussions, lecture, videos, readings, and case studies facilitate the participant’s understanding of the legal requirements for transition in IDEA and the transition planning process.

Course Objectives

Course participants will:

How to earn Graduate Credits

Meet the Presenters

Betsy McGinnity
Betsy McGinnity recently retired after 36 years at Perkins School for the Blind, where she had overseen the operations of the Training & Educational Resources Program. McGinnity spent several years working as a teacher of students with deafblindness and severe disabilities in public and state schools before starting her career at Perkins in 1980 as coordinator of vocational services in the Deafblind Program. For the next two decades McGinnity worked with students and families to help students transition from being in school to living and working as adults in their communities. She received her M.Ed in special education at the University of Washington in Seattle.
