Alexa is now a kid-friendly DJ, comedian, storyteller and teacher! Amazon has created a kid-friendly version of the Amazon Dot. This edition is wrapped in black, blue, green or red foam padding (similar to kid tablet cases) and comes with a two year damage replacement warrantee. The FreeTime parental controls enable parents to establish controls to keep children from accessing inappropriate content and keeps children from being able to order items through the Dot. FreeTime also enables parents to review their kids' activity and/or put time limits on their usage. The FreeTime feature can also serve up age-appropriate content when kids use the phrase, "I'm bored." The FreeTime Unlimited is a subscription program for children's content. The Echo Dot Kids Edition comes with a year's subscription; for Amazon Prime members the subscription will be $2.99 per month; non-members will be $4.99 per month. Another new feature is the 'Magic Word', which encourages children to say "please" when issuing commands.
Families who already have Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, or Echo Plus can access these new child-friendly software features through a software update; an Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition is not required.
Amazon's Echo Dot Kids Edition will begin shipping on May 9th.
