The learning needs of students with CVI are uniquely based on the assessment of visual behaviors that are the hallmark of CVI: attention to color, attention to environmental movement, the impact of lighting, the impact of complexity (of object, of array, of faces and sensory complexity), any visual field preferences, visual latency for looking or for understanding what is seen, lack of distance curiosity or attention, difficulties with visual novelty, and differences in visual motor abilities. The IEP needs to reflect these areas of difficulty in the student profile, in goals and objectives and in accommodations/methodologies to ensure access to visual learning. Creating quality IEPs will foster visual improvements and recognition of materials and learning sequences
