Stapling School Newsletter

Build confidence and independence while taking part in school organizations with appropriate tasks.

This activity has been revised and was originally created by Susan E. Edwards and published in the Perkins Activity and Resource Guide (1st edition, 1992).  The second edition is available for purchase.

There are many activities in the daily school environment that can translate to work skills in the community.  Stapling the school newsletter is one such activity. It works on organizing and one-to-one correspondence in addition to stapling and practicing the pincer grasp. The activity can be done cooperatively, with one student collating and another stapling the collated papers. Lessons include Career Education, Orientation and Mobility, and Independent Living Skills.

Provide the following: collated paper, a stapler, a finished box. Ask the student to staple the paper in the following manner:
