Ring Around Sing-Along

Encourage interaction among peers with music and a simple game!

This activity has been revised and was originally created by Charlotte Cushman and published in the Perkins Activity and Resource Guide (1st edition, 1992).  The second edition is available for purchase.

This playful activity encourages students to develop an awareness of themselves and others, interact with peers, and participate in group activities. Lessons include Concept Development and Social Skills.

None required

One student stands in the middle while others circle around him and sing to the tune of “Ring Around the Rosie”:

Ring around_____

All around ______

Clap hands, clap hands,

We all clap for ______.

Repeat the activity until everyone has had a chance to stand in the middle.

Have the student in the middle choose the next person to be in the center of the circle.

Hint: Encourage students to call their peers by name as appropriate throughout the day. Provide a verbal model, if necessary.
