The following is part of a series of 6 different activities related to football, designed to be played indoors on a replica football field. These activities have been modified for students who are blind or visually impaired, including those with deafblindness or multiple disabilities.
Materials
- 2 – 4 large cones
- 7 footballs
- kicking tee or small cone
- clothes line or thin rope (optional) for trailing
Procedure
- This activity can be done in groups of 3 or 4 students. One student is the center, one is the quarterback, and one is the running back.
- The center hikes the ball through his/her legs to the quarterback who grips the ball and turns to the right to hand the ball off to the running back who starts to move in that direction. The center may also hike the ball laterally instead of through the legs.
- Instruct the center and to hike the ball on the quaterbacks “hike” command or a tap on the back.
- Once the running back secures the ball he/she runs, walks, or strolls to the opposite end for a touchdown.
- Have the students rotate through the different positions.
Variations
- Place 3 small cones 1 ½ yards apart diagonally and have student run cutting around the cones.
